Public Safety

The protection and safety of our citizens is law enforcement’s primary goal. It is a means to maintain order and protect the public.

  • Improve the safety of our roads by providing traffic lights and stop signs at the city’s most dangerous intersections, calming measures, sidewalks, enhanced lighting, and the installation of wayfinding signage.
  • Adopt measures to support camera surveillance in areas with a high prevalence of crime or traffic accidents.
  • Support East Point Police and Fire to produce policy and legislation that is beneficial for the greater good of the community.
  • Advocate and support policing that includes a behavioral health unit that responds to community members in crises.

Economic Development

It’s important to strategically invest in our present community with an eye on the future. Central to the growth of the City of East Point is improving the downtown area. Community improvements should be grounded in sustainable practices to ensure a holistic solution for all parts of the City of East Point.

  • Work with city leadership to establish strong communication and alignment between city departments that oversee economic development and small business in our community.
  • Support the employment and retention of our residents to maintain a diverse talent in our city.
  • Advocate for a diversity of economic development opportunities; supporting small business, nonprofits as well as inclusive and innovative tech and development markets.
  • Promote the repurpose of dilapidated industrial sites for mixed use developments that will increase the quality of life for residents and support Art installations throughout our city.
  • Support entrepreneurs while advocating for socially responsible developments that protect the fabric of our communities.

Investments in Infrastructure

Beyond vehicular transportation, we need to prioritize investments in greenspaces that include sidewalks, walking trails (where possible) and bike lanes. We must make sure these amenities are accessible to ALL our citizens, wherever they live. Investments in greenspace and infrastructure throughout our city will benefit current families and future generations.

  • Advocate for The Live East Point: A Home to Imagine Initiative which will capture the city’s efforts to make East Point a more livable and affordable community.
  • Develop public & private partnerships for the purpose of optimizing financing opportunities and improving municipal projects.
  • Assist Land Bank Trusts, local housing authorities, and developers to increase access to affordable housing solutions to improve the quality of life for citizens.
  • Support the funding and installation of LEDs/or solar streetlights on major thoroughfares and to enhance communities.
  • Ensure fiscal responsibility with city programs, projects, and initiatives while investing in the growth of East Point.

Community Engagement Through Health and Wellness

Meaningful, inclusive community engagement is important, even critical, to community well-being. This includes engaging diverse, usually underrepresented, or overlooked, in the decision-making process that affects their lives. Community engagement increases the visibility and understanding of issues and empowers communities to have their say over decisions that affect their lives, their towns, cities, and neighborhoods.

  • Provide Ward D residents with a Bi-Monthly newsletter on community and city updates.
  • Host quarterly Ward D meetings to engage residents and seek opinions on current and relevant matters.
  • Promote activities that connect families, legacy residents, and senior citizens to holistic services that include health and finances.
  • Reignite the public & private partnership with the Georgia Soccer Park Foundation to expand opportunities for this recreational facility.
  • Collaborate and work with our local Parent Teacher Associations and local schools (elementary, middle, and high school) as well as with alumni associations.
  • Develop a Ward D Advisory Council made up of residents in the community.
