Meet LaTonya

Dr. LaTonya Martin Rogers proudly serves the City of East Point as an elected official committed to strong leadership, responsive government, and community-centered solutions. An educator, public servant, and lifelong advocate for equity and opportunity, she believes the best policies are shaped by listening to the people who live and work in the community.

Originally from Delray Beach, Florida, Dr. Rogers made Atlanta home while attending Morris Brown College, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. She went on to earn a master’s degree in public administration and a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership—academic training that continues to guide her thoughtful, data-informed approach to governance.

With more than 25 years of experience in education, Dr. Rogers has dedicated her career to serving students, families, and neighborhoods. She brings that same commitment to her work in public office, where she actively participates in council meetings, collaborates with fellow leaders, and votes on legislation that impacts the daily lives of East Point residents. Her responsibilities include oversight of city operations, fiscal decision-making, intergovernmental partnerships, and advancing policies that strengthen city services and neighborhood quality of life.

Dr. Rogers is especially passionate about expanding opportunities for young people and families. She led the creation of East Point’s first internship program in partnership with Atlanta Metropolitan State College, providing students with hands-on, real-world experience while earning college credit. She also played a key role in establishing the city’s first public-private partnership through the Georgia Soccer Park Foundation, increasing access to recreational spaces and youth programming.

Deeply rooted in the community, Dr. Rogers serves on and supports numerous civic, cultural, and educational organizations, including the East Point Cultural Enrichment Commission, East Point Preservation Alliance, East Point Historical Society, East Point Census Board, Tri-Cities High School Alumni Association, South Fulton Parents for Education and additional education-focused advocacy groups. Her work reflects a strong belief that engaged communities build stronger cities.

Dr. Rogers resides in the Heritage Park neighborhood with her husband, Robert P. Rogers Jr. They are active members of Friendship Community Church, where they volunteer their time in service to others. She is a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, and remains engaged in alumni and service organizations. Together, the Rogers’ are inaugural owners of Market 166, a people-first cooperative grocery store working to expand access to fresh, healthy food in East Point.

Dr. LaTonya Martin Rogers remains committed to leading with integrity, transparency, and compassion—ensuring that East Point continues to grow in a way that reflects and uplifts the voices of its residents.
